Some interesting moving projects that we did in the past.
Placing a monument at the Saratoga (N.Y.) Battlefield in 1931.
Base of monument on a delivery truck. Note that the truck had a chain drive (just in front of the truck's back wheel) instead of the driveshaft/differential drive that all vehicles now have.
We used a chainfall (hand operated winch) to keep the base from going too fast as we removed it from the truck. It is sitting on lengths of pipe which were used as rollers.
After jockeying it close to its final resting place by using hand-operated levers and a chainfall, we erected an A-frame and lifted it into place, using the chainfall and a block and tackle. The remaining parts of the monument would be placed in a similar manner.
